About Me





Sugar Dread has played a vital part in global reggae history especially in the UK. From a young age he’s been inspired by Rasta levity reggae music and sound system culture. Back in the days had to sneak out to go listen top sound systems battle it out. One of his earliest memorable experience was meeting the late Robert Nesta Marley through a family friend Ms Averill Phipps RIP. (Like a mother) Today still friends with her children Hank, Mark and Marie Phipps.
Another memorable experience ending up in Fairfield House in Bath the house that Emperor Haile Selassie I stay when he came to England, how this came about when he and friends got stranded after a blues dance in St Paul’s Bristol. “We all came in the sound van from London but couldn’t find the driver, he was otherwise occupied… “
From London traveling to cities like Huddersfield, Bristol, Birmingham Nottingham listening to heavyweight 70s roots systems such as Jah Shaka, Fatman, Sir Coxsone, Neville King, Super-tone, Frontline, King Tubby’s, Ital Tom, Ital Rockers, Taurus, Killer Watt, Java, Peoples sound, Small Axe, I Spy, One Love, Sir Lloyd, Viking Tubby Isaac’s, Outlaw and the 80s champion Saxon studio to name a few who’s still playing today.
1989 he decided to go solo and started as a guest DJ on a radio show on west London’s Time radio loved that experience then moved on to Fresh FM, Star radio, Classic Radio, Sky FM, Power Jam, Rockers FM, BRI (British Reggae Industry) thanks to the late great reggae ambassador Tony William. The journey continued to First Love, Choice FM and now www.vibesfm.net. Achievement to date he won DJ of the year 3 years consecutively 1992/94/94 Best radio DJ at The British Reggae Awards. 1995 won a community achievement award from the local authority for organizing community events. Acquiring an HNC in Radio Broadcasting at Lewisham college as a qualified Journalist, Radio Producer and Presenter. As well as travelling to many destinations with charity work he also broadcast in Africa the Caribbean and Europe.
Currently Director of the Rastafari movement UK CIC (community interest company). Ras Sugar Dread is skilled in Leadership and Management. Operational of Teams Locally and Regional Accountability, monitoring funding Campaigns, He has specialities in Research & Development, donor acquisition, business development, coaching and media networking.
Ras Sugar excellent fundraising skills leading teams for client companies such as World Vision, Concern Worldwide, National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) and Age UK, raising over £100m for charity partners.

Ras Clive’s experience extends to: Mentoring young people interested in radio and radio production, organizing industry networking events and workshops, enhancing opportunities sharing life skills to help one's reach their true potential. Training new recruits and current employees volunteer on business practices, company culture & values. Procurement and Booking of event & work sites, Working Independently running events including new product/market awareness campaigns, events, sponsorship and donor appeals with Business Development skills and experience in setting objectives, sales, market share, brand recognition. negotiating key alliances with the executive team to support strategy and attract strong employees new business sales and Sponsorships.
